Sunday 10th to Saturday 16th May
As many of you know, St. Mary’s had planned to hold a ‘Coffee Morning and Cake Sale’ on Saturday 9th May at St Mary’s Centre. For the last 3 years we have held this event to replace the house-to-house collections which have taken place in our parish during Christian Aid Week for many years. However, in view of the covid-19 situation, Christian Aid has decided that house-to house collections and events like our Coffee Morning and Cake Sale should not go ahead.
Instead, Christian Aid is moving online! It has built a virtual ‘Christian Aid Week’ so that we can all take part. During Christian Aid Week there will be live-streaming services of worship each day and a daily quiz to join in and raise funds. Alternatively you can simply donate by visiting Christian Aid’s website www.christianaid.org.uk and giving to Christian Aid’s marvellous work.
If you prefer not to give online, you can call 020 7523 2269 to donate by telephone. You can also make a donation by post but unfortunately there is a delay to processing donations at the moment due to the current circumstances regarding Covid-19. However, if you would prefer to donate in this way then cheques should be sent to Christian Aid’s Head Office (Christian Aid, 35-41 Lower Marsh, London, SE1 7RL) or to the following alternative address:- Freepost Plus RTHB-AKAE-UUSX, Christian Aid, The Data Solution Centre, Manton Wood Enterprise Park, Worksop, S80 2RT.
If infection rates start to develop as they are in Europe, then people in poorer countries will be hit even harder. Many are already living with reduced health resilience because of extreme poverty, or in overcrowded humanitarian camps and in countries which do not have the healthcare infrastructures needed to combat widespread disease. Christian Aid will be working on the ground to help prepare communities to limit the impact of Covid-19. Please pray for Christian Aid in this vital work, and support them where you can by making a donation.
