Update 15/06/2020: Good News!

St Mary’s Church will reopen for PRIVATE PRAYERS ONLY from Sunday 21st June.

We will be open on Sunday Mornings from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

We will also be open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday’s of each month between 9.30am and 12.00 noon.

We look forward to welcoming you back into the church building. Whilst we are currently unable to hold church services you can either come and quietly pray for whoever or whatever is on you mind or simply to sit quietly in our beautiful little church.

If you would like to do so, please do please bring a Bible, a book of poetry or another book with you.

Due to St Mary’s Centre having to currently remain closed we are unfortunately unable to offer refreshments or toilets at the moment.

Please be aware that due to the need to maintain social distancing we can only accommodate a small number of people at a time.

Updated 24/03/2020: St Mary’s & Coronavirus

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement (Monday 23rd March), we have suspended our regular church service’s until further notice and are unable to keep the church open for private prayer.

While we are sadly unable to hold our regular church service’s we will be posting the Sunday Gospel reading and a short reflection on our church Facebook page each week.

We will continue to offer pastoral care – if either yourself or anyone you know needs support with shopping, the collection of medication etc please do let us know by phoning Revd Scott Edwards on 020 8397 3016 or by email vicar@stmaryschessington.org

With my thoughts and prayers at this time,
Scott

Updated 18/03/2020: St Mary’s & Coronavirus

Unfortunately, in light of the Government guidance around non-essential contact to try to help slow the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), the Church of England is suspending regular services across the country until further notice.

This means that our services at 8am and 10am on Sundays, our Wednesday Evening Prayer and our Friday Stations of the Cross services will not take place at the moment. May I apologise for the upset this shall cause.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have however said that “Churches should be open where possible but with no public worship services taking place.” We will therefore keep the church open on Sunday mornings from 9.30am for a couple of hours so that anyone who would like to pop in to say a prayer or two, or simply have some quite space can do so. We would simply ask everyone to observe the social distance recommendations that the Government have issued.

We will continue to offer pastoral care – if either yourself or anyone you know needs support with shopping, the collection of medication etc please do let us know by phoning Revd Scott Edwards on 020 8397 3016 or by email vicar@stmaryschessington.org
